In the Alaskan Iditarod, more than sixty dog sled teams race across the frozen tundra from Anchorage to Nome. In our urban version, teams of 'dogs' lead by a musher will pull their sleds (shopping carts) through some of Portland's most scenic areas. These teams of barking humans must negotiate through the unrelenting and unforgiving dangers of Portland's urban frontier. As an incentive to run, dogs and mushers alike will have several 'rest stops' to replenish lost fluids and discuss tales of mayhem. The course is over four miles, so dogs and mushers alike need to be ready and able to run their tails off.

2012 Portland Urban Iditarod
Start thinking about training your dogs, the 2012 Urban Iditarod will be held on Saturday, February 25. The Registration will open at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, January 15. The event is open to 100 teams only. Teams are limited to five people (one musher and four dogs). The cost per team is $60.

Inspired by the Urban Iditarod, prior team captain, Josh Warren designed a logo so incredible I get thirsty just looking at it. This design will be used on the 2011 shirts. Shirts are short sleeve cotton and come in standard men and women sizes. They sell for $12 each. Order your shirt when you register your team and they will be ready to pick up at the team captain meetings.
